Its about that time...

After IM Louisville, I was definitely a little disappointed, but I also knew it would be foolish to just jump back into another IM. So after taking some down time, I decided to go a slightly different direction and signed up for the Rocket City Marathon. People always seem surprised when I tell them I've never run a marathon, but training for one doesn't exactly jive so well with triathlon training. So with the race on December 9th, I figured this would the perfect opportunity to set the other two sports on the back-burner for a bit and focus on running for a couple of months. Plus, I have wanted to run a marathon before I get too old...

So, the last six weeks or so I've been slowly ramping up my running while just kind of maintaining swimming and biking. The last six weeks have seen mileage totals on the run of 52, 66, 70, 73, 77, and 81, (all in singles, BTW) while swimming 12-16,000 yds/week and biking 30-70 miles, usually just in one weekend ride. I wanted to take a cautious build, but I'm really pleased with how I'm handling the extra running volume. So after a few aches and pains at the end of September, I haven't had any issues over the last month, even with races three weeks in a row in October. The results of those races weren't spectacular by any means, but I'm keeping my "eyes on the prize", so to speak, and just used them as workouts.

I am pulling back a bit this week for the Huntsville Half Marathon, so that should be a good test of fitness. After that, it'll be full speed ahead to RCM!
